Name: Andy - UK Executive Director &Peter - Technical development
What do they do? Andy is based at our office in Cambridge and is our resident hovercraft nerd and pilot instructor as well as being responsible for HoverAid UK's operations and growth at home and UK volunteers overseas. Andy's key focus is on technical development of the hovercraft in the UK and in Madagascar so he works very closely with a regular team of volunteers like Peter Gunner, a farmer from East Sussex, developing and maintaining our small fleet of vehicles.
Peter has been a long term volunteer with HoverAid and even built a dedicated test track where our hovercraft can be put through their paces during maintenance and refurbishment periods. This facility along with the workshop enable our volunteers to maintain River Rover 308 (our UK demonstration craft) and also prepare a much larger Griffon 1500 for long term use in Madagascar.
Passing on the Pie? Andy and Peter provide technical support to Patrick and Peter van Buuren, hovercraft maintenance, parts and advice as well as emergency relief support for Jose and the other pilots without which the team in Madagascar couldn't function. Andy also does all the charity admin and financial stuff in the UK - it's a very full time job.
"At its core HoverAid really isn't about hovercraft - it's about people, and those are people God loves every bit as much as our friends, families, and neighbours here at home. It's so humbling when people who have so little share what they have with you, and our response has to be to share too." - Andy
