Dawn in a Sussex barn reveals the silhouette of HoverAid’s newest craft in production. A River Rover MkIV Eagerly awaits it’s BMW engine, drive and control mechanisms prior to the fitting of the skirt and fans. No robots here, each component is selected, placed and fixed into position by hand.
Andy Mayo, Technical Director(left) and Chris Evans, Project Manager (right) discuss the build and work out the best approach to the many technical challenges the project offers up: This craft needs to operate reliably in some of the harshest conditions on the planet, specifically intense heat, storm and flood.
Volunteers from Ricardo test the seating plan, and brace positions for waterfall descent. Their help in progressing the project is invaluable. Also to the foreground is the newly installed front fuel tank.
RRIV build as of December 2022 the folding deck is now complete, the cabin and rear of the craft is being prepared for the engine and drive assembly.
